While serving as an AmeriCorps volunteer at Providence CityArts for Youth, I got to work on a wheatepasted mural for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day 2015. So many hands were a part of it. The students did these great drawings of hands taking action towards nonviolence, inspired by #HandsUpDontShoot. I was asked to letter all the quotes we got from community members. Two other teachers fit all the pieces together like a quilt. And after the kids, their teachers, and volunteers installed it, twenty community members joined us to add their thoughts on nonviolence to it with chalk.
